Universal Fit for Heavy Equipment

RioRAD installs on any heavy equipment with a 12V or 24V electrical system. DC 11-32V input. Reverse polarity protection. ISO 16750-2 surge and load-dump rated.

🛣️ Construction and Roadwork — road rollers, compactors, graders. Continuous reverse-forward cycles where radar catches workers stepping into the path.

⛏️ Mining, Quarry, and Earthmoving — haul trucks, articulated dump trucks, wheel loaders, excavators, dozers, mining support vehicles. Radar reads distance through dust where the camera image alone cannot carry the load.

🌾 Agriculture — large tractors pulling drills or offset implements, combines, sprayers, grain carts. Adjustable detection angle ignores the implement itself, so the radar reports only what matters behind the machine.

🏗️ Port and Terminal — reach stackers, container handlers, terminal tractors, yard trucks. Camera shows the workspace; radar reports distance through container shadows and dense yard traffic.

What's in the
RioRAD System

10.1" Touch IPS Dashboard — The flagship monitor in the Riodatos lineup. The full-laminated touchscreen provides nearly twice the viewing area of a standard display, making distance indicators and alerts easy to read from any seating position.

77 GHz Millimeter Wave Radar — Detects distance, angle, and relative speed using dual-beam radar technology with a 120° field of view. Designed for darkness and harsh environments where visibility can be compromised.

➜ HD Backup Camera — Features a HD 1080p image sensor with a wide 130° viewing angle and built-in infrared night vision. The IP69K aluminum housing withstands dust, mud, and high-pressure wash-down environments.

Complete Installation Kit — Includes the monitor, radar sensor, HD camera, mounting brackets, extension cables, fasteners, and installation hardware —nothing to source separately.

Backup Camera with Radar: Two Sensors, One Screen, Every Condition

🌫️Dust — open-pit mining, quarry, aggregate, dry-yard agricultural. Radar reads distance through the cloud. Camera shows the rear view. Together they cover the gap.

🌧️ Rain and snow — port yards, intermodal terminals, construction in active weather. Radar registers obstacles when the lens is streaked or the snow is blowing.

🌒 Low light and night shifts — dawn, dusk, indoor-to-outdoor terminal transitions. Camera infrared helps. Radar makes it certain.

🚛 Container shadows and yard lighting changes — The radar distance reading does not change with lighting.

⚡ Electrical noise and surges — ISO 16750-2 rated to 174V transient on 24V systems.

🛢️ Pressure wash-down — IP69K camera. IP67 radar. Wash bay survivable.

Backup Camera with Radar Zones: Green, Yellow, Red

Three Radar Zones the Operator Reads at a Glance

As an object enters the radar field, the backup camera with radar maps the measured distance to one of three color zones on the monitor. Green at a safe distance and the operator continues. Yellow as the object closes and the operator slows down to check the view. Red inside the exclusion distance and the operator stops.

Radar zones for RioRAD

Camera and Radar. Both Layers Working.

A backup camera shows the operator what's behind the machine. Radar measures how close it is. RioRADAR runs both at the same time on a 10.1" touch dashboard, so the operator gets the picture and the distance on one screen.

Universal Radar and Camera Technology

RioRAD combines both on a large 10.1-inch high-resolution color LCD monitor, giving operators the visual context of an HD camera with the detection capability of 77 GHz millimeter wave radar.

The camera shows what's behind the machine, while the radar continuously monitors for approaching objects and hazards.

Together, they create a smarter, more confident way to operate in darkness, dust, fog, and other challenging conditions.

Distance, Angle, and Speed

The 77 GHz radar emits a dual-beam fan-shaped electromagnetic wave. Targets reflect the wave back to a 3-transmitter, 4-receiver antenna array. Every 40 milliseconds (25 times per second) the radar reports three measurements to the monitor

📡 Distance — accurate to 0.1m, resolution 0.2m, out to 20m

📐 Angle — 120° horizontal × 120° vertical detection field, customizable to ignore known geometry

🏎️ Relative speed — ±60 km/h range, 1.9 km/h resolution — separates a parked obstacle from a closing one

⏱️ Refresh rate — 40ms cycle time, 25 Hz update — no lag between movement and screen reaction

🛡️ Anti-interference — 77 GHz band is automotive-spec, used in commercial vehicle ACC and blind-spot systems, immune to RF noise that disables lower-frequency obstacle sensors

FAQ — Backup Camera with Radar

Q: Why bundle a camera with a radar instead of just one or the other?
A: They cover each other's blind spots. A camera shows the operator what is there — the visual context the operator needs to make a decision. But cameras struggle in dust, fog, rain, snow, and low light. A radar measures distance reliably in those conditions but does not show the operator a picture. RioRAD puts both on the same flagship 10.1" screen. Best of both worlds.

Q: How is RioRADAR different from a standard backup camera?

A: A standard backup camera shows video. RioRAD adds a car-grade 77 GHz radar that measures distance, angle, and relative speed every 40 milliseconds. The monitor combines the camera view with radar zone alerts — color zone borders, distance readout in the corner, and one of three sound patterns. Two layers, one screen.

Q: What does the radar actually report?

A: Three measurements every 40ms — distance (0.1m accuracy out to 20m), angle off-center (120° horizontal by 120° vertical detection field), and relative speed (±60 km/h range, 1.9 km/h resolution). The monitor combines those with vehicle state to decide what to show the operator.

Q: How customizable are the alerts?

A: Three display styles — full-screen dome overlay, inner-rectangle frame, or neon-glow border. Three sound patterns matched to zone. Three zone boundaries, each adjustable. Detection distance 0.5m to 20m, detection width 0.8m to 8m, detection angle adjustable. You can tune the radar so a known implement does not constantly trigger alarms.

Q: What does "heavy-equipment-grade" mean?

A: The radar operates in the 77 GHz millimeter wave band, the same frequency range used in commercial vehicle adaptive cruise control and blind-spot systems on Class 8 trucks. The monitor carries ISO 16750-2 surge and load-dump protection, the standard applied to OEM electronics on heavy equipment and commercial fleets. The camera and monitor are vibration rated to GB/T 2423.56-2018 5G random — built for the shock and vibration profile of mining, quarry, and port machinery.

Q: Why the 10.1" monitor and not the 7"?

A: For pure backup duty, screen size is the operator experience. The 10.1" panel has roughly twice the visible area of a 7-inch monitor. Distance numerals read at a glance from any seating position. The full-laminated capacitive touch looks and responds like a modern tablet. Bigger screen, more useful, more likely the operator actually uses it.

Q: Does RioRADAR require cloud, WiFi, or subscriptions?

A: No. Fully on-device. The radar processes in the radar unit. The monitor displays zone alerts directly. No connectivity required. No portal login. No monthly fee.

Q: Can I add more cameras later?

A: Yes. The 10.1" monitor supports up to 4 AHD camera channels. The standard RioRAD ships with one rear camera. Additional cameras can be added for side, front, or trailer views without replacing the monitor.

Q: What about dust, fog, rain, and night operation?

A: This is the use case RioRAD was built for. The 77 GHz radar is unaffected by lighting, dust, haze, rain, or snow. The HD camera includes infrared night vision with auto day-night IR-CUT. Together, the system maintains awareness in conditions that defeat a basic backup camera.

Q: What's the warranty?

A: RioRAD carries an 18-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Direct contact for support — info@riodatos.com or (520) 501-0602. Not a ticket queue.
